The Top 5 Chicken Restaurants in Brisbane That Might Be Better Than Fast Food

  • Quality of Ingredients: We prioritized restaurants that use fresh, high-quality ingredients because they impact the flavor and overall dining experience.
  • Variety of Menu Options: We looked for places that offer a diverse range of chicken dishes. This variety allows me to explore new flavors and cater to different preferences, whether I'm dining alone or with friends.
  • Customer Reviews: We considered feedback from other diners to gauge the restaurant's reputation. Positive reviews often highlight consistent quality and service, which helps me make informed choices about where to eat.
  • Affordability: We seeked restaurants that provide good value for money without compromising quality. Enjoying delicious chicken meals at reasonable prices makes dining out more enjoyable and accessible for me.

One long weekend, I hosted a small cousins gathering. Of course, the first thing that a host has to think about is what to do. And then I figured, what better option than a food trip but with a twist?

I tried thinking about a food item that almost everybody likes: chicken. What if we went restaurant-hopping to find out which one serves the best chicken? That’s exactly the twist we agreed on.

Besides, it’s one way to find out where to go back again. Plus, I can give recommendations and make an article about it.

If you want to know which restaurants they are, keep reading!

Royal Charcoal Chicken has a bunch of chicken options, all cooked over charcoal. They swear by using fresh, high-quality ingredients instead of frozen stuff, and they’re all about those natural spices that really make their dishes pop.

We love that they really emphasize family here. You can feel that warmth in their service–it’s like they genuinely want to make sure you have a good time. Plus, they switch things up with seasonal menus that bring new flavors to the table throughout the year.

If you’re planning a get-together or just have a big family dinner, they’ve got you covered with family-sized meals! They’re perfect for sharing, and what’s better is that they don’t break the bank. You get a lot of bang for your buck, which is always a win.

It was also refreshing to know they don’t use any frozen stuff. They focus on sourcing fresh halal meat, and it honestly made a huge difference in the overall taste. Definitely not your average takeaway!

There’s so much variety that everyone can find something they like. We went for the Turkish plate, and it was a great choice. It had a bit of everything–a mix of flavors and sides that meant I could try different dishes all in one sitting.

But I did hear a common complaint floating around about dry chicken being served from time to time. I’d suggest they tighten up their quality control, especially during those busy hours.

And maybe some extra training for the staff on handling complaints could really make a difference too. It’d definitely help enhance the experience for everyone and keep those loyal customers coming back for more.

Pros

  • Fresh ingredients
  • Family-sized meals
  • Sources fresh halal meat
  • Affordable pricing

Cons

  • Dry chicken on busy hours
  • Staff need extra training

Everyone walks out with smiles inside

Fan-tabouli-ous! This humble looking joint serves hands down top-notch kebabs in town. The mixed kebab is not only generously portioned but also full of tender juicy flavour packed. No one smiles here, but you know everyone walks out with smiles inside big time!

Some of the best tasting chicken and kebabs

Cheap and some of the best tasting chicken and kebabs I’ve eaten around Brisbane. $20 for half chicken, chips and salad, $13 for a chicken kebab made from fresh charcoal chicken.

KCS Chicken is known for their Korean-infused menu. They specialize in Korean fried chicken; the Boneless Fried Chicken and Korean Fried Chicken Burgers are absolute game-changers!

They use hormone-free chicken and whip up their sauces, which makes a difference. And if you’re too busy to go out, they’ve covered you with delivery options through UberEats!

You know how sometimes you bite into chicken, and it can feel either dry or not quite right? Well, this wasn’t the case at KCS. The chicken was crispy and tender—seriously, the flavor was on another level!

It was clear they put a lot of thought into sourcing their ingredients. And don’t even get me started on the sauces! You can get your chicken plain or jazz it up with either Korean Sweet Chilli or that irresistible Secret Soy.

I picked up some chatter about inconsistent wait times during busy hours though. But that’s pretty common. It would be great if they rolled out an online ordering system with estimated wait times.

That way, it’d help set expectations for folks and keep the flow of customers smooth during peak times. A little tweak like that could make a big difference in overall satisfaction, making it even easier for everyone to enjoy what KCS offers.

Pros

  • Crispy and tender chicken
  • Hormone-free chicken
  • Has UberEats option

Cons

  • Inconsistent wait times

The staff were super attentive and made us feel welcomed

The fried chicken burger here is so yummy! I totally recommend it! The staff were super attentive and made us feel welcomed and valued. We ordered the Oh My Cheese burger, the Korean fried chicken burger, the kimchi fries and the soy boneless fried chicken. The OMC burger was definitely a stand out and I loved the soft bun and how flavourful the burger was! The one thing I would note is that we received our boneless fried chicken much later than the rest of the meal, and it was a little over cooked and dry. However, I thought the ambience of the restaurant was very cozy and the dim lighting definitely added to the mood!

Homey-vibed joint

Just a few mins walk from the Gabba, this homey-vibed joint will surely be on your “will come back to” list. Customer service feels like you’re invited by your mate to their party as it was warm and welcoming. The Korean fried chicken burger had simple flavours that when combined together seem like getting a warm hug, pair it up with a Kimchi cheese fries for that “extra tight warm hug” feel. Shame I wasn’t able to fit a chocolate milkshake in but I’m coming back anyways so that’s on the next meal

Creole Soul Kitchen radiates Southern hospitality, mainly thanks to Marc, a co-owner. He’s always wandering around, chatting with guests. That personal touch pulls you in and makes you feel part of something special rather than just another diner.

The menu is a treasure trove of Creole-influenced dishes! Who wouldn’t be intrigued by dishes like Soul Kitchen Prawns and Crocodile Cakes? Each bite tells a story of New Orleans’ culinary traditions.

And if you’re like us and enjoy a good drink with your meal, the bar area is super inviting. They have a nice selection of beers and dessert wines, which rounds out the whole experience. It’s the perfect spot to kick back with friends or family.

What struck us, though, was the vibe. There were a lot of glowing reviews about the friendly atmosphere and attentive service. It felt like we were dining with friends rather than just visiting a restaurant!

As for the prices, we’d say they’re on the higher side for some dishes. But honestly, given the quality of the food and the unique flavors, many diners (including myself) felt the prices were justified.

The owners put their hearts into it, and you could feel that personal touch in the air! I noticed, though, that some people mentioned the service got a bit slow during peak hours.

If you’re planning to go on a busy night, just be prepared for a bit of a wait. Could a reservation system help with that? It might make things smoother for everyone!

Pros

  • Authentic Louisiana dishes
  • Passionate owner
  • Wide food and drink variety
  • Friendly atmosphere
  • Great service

Cons

  • Slower service on peak hours
  • Some items are expensive

I will definitely be back

Across from the Johnson, this is a great restaurant. The service was great, the food was great and the prices aligned to the quality of the food. I had pasta which was really worth it. I sat near to where the food came out and it all looked great. I will definitely be back and will try something new.

Bloody brilliant food

Bloody brilliant food! Husband has always wanted to try here after spending some time working and living in Louisiana a few years ago. He had the chicken fried chicken and said it was as good as any he has had. I had the Soul Kitchen Prawns – very delicious with some Creole fries to share. We were there for lunch mid week and there were a few diners around us. Service was lovely and prompt. We sat outside. The chef even came out to offer me more bread to clean up my plate properly! I never had this type of food before so I was pleasantly surprised and loved it. I rarely have dessert but we decided to give it a crack (share) and it was great, homemade vanilla ice cream (from memory it was apple pie or similar – a special not on the regular menu). Can’t wait to go back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

What stands out about Nene Chicken is how they prepare their food. They’ve got this special marination process that makes the chicken super juicy. Seriously, each bite is like a flavor bomb–succulent and packed with taste!

The batter is a crisp mix that creates the perfect contrast with the tender chicken inside. They have some incredible flavors that capture that authentic Korean vibe, like Bulgogi and Snowing Cheese. It’s like a little flavor adventure for your taste buds!

But it’s not just about the food. The atmosphere at Nene Chicken is vibrant and inviting, and the staff is super friendly too!

From the moment we walked in, we could tell they cared about the quality of their ingredients. The chicken was crispy on the outside but juicy and tender on the inside. They used fresh, well-sourced poultry.

And the sauces like the Swicy and Snowing Vegetable sauces were packed with flavor. They didn’t taste overly processed, which made the whole meal come together!

They’ve got everything from classic fried chicken to more unique flavors like bulgogi and a hot spicy option they call “freaking hot.” We appreciated the chance to mix and match flavors in their combo meals so that I could dive into various tastes in one go.

As for pricing, Nene Chicken strikes a decent balance. The meals are reasonably priced, considering the portion sizes and the unique flavors. But I noticed some diners felt it might be a tad on the high side for a fast-food experience.

On the way, we also came across a few reviews that mentioned that people sometimes noticed inconsistencies in portion sizes. Like, they’d sometimes get fewer pieces than expected in their orders.

We thought about how helpful it would be for Nene Chicken to tighten their quality control, especially during those busy hours. It’d help fulfill orders accurately and maybe even make a clearer note about portion sizes on the menu.

Pros

  • Fresh, well-sourced poultry
  • Big portion sizes
  • Unique flavors
  • Efficient service

Cons

  • On the pricey side
  • Inconsistent portion sizes at times
  • Inconsistent flavors

A great choice for a satisfying meal

I had the pleasure of visiting the Nene Korean Fried Chicken for the first time today, and I was very impressed. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. The service was efficient, and the food was pretty much what you can expect from a similar KFC, and was served promptly. Overall, I highly recommend this location for its excellent customer service and quick, reliable service. A great choice for a satisfying meal!

The food is freshly prepared

I’ve been here on a number of occasions – both to dine in and grab a takeaway.  Located in Uptown. It’s a really popular joint if this is any indication of how good it is. I read this is currently the only one in Queensland. Coming soon to Australia Fair and Southport according to their website. I have tried Korean fried chicken (one of the best I have tasted – it was crunchy, the batter covered all of the chicken & there were several sauce options to choose from), burgers (decent sized chicken patty, crunchy & well seasoned, simple salad on a soft tasty bun). Note: the food is freshly prepared – so be patient. The ‘swicy’ sauce isn’t hot according to my standards, but I still get it anyway. Cash or card options are available. Be prepared to cop the surcharge if paying by card. At least they are transparent about it & tell you exactly how much the fee is.

Momo Chicken is known for their Korean fried chicken and offers so many unique combinations that there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

We tried their Boneless Three Set, which allowed us to sample multiple flavors in one meal. It was perfect for us cousins because we have different tastes.

One of our favorite highlights was discovering their partnership with this super-talented mixologist. Seriously, the cocktails he whips up are made specifically to pair with the flavors of their chicken! It’s like a match made in foodie heaven.

And it doesn’t stop there! They’ve got this loyalty membership program that’s pretty neat too. If you spend a certain amount, you get prizes.

From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the quality of the ingredients they use in their dishes. The chicken was so tender and juicy–it was clear they weren’t cutting corners. You could taste the freshness, which greatly impacted the overall flavor.

Sure, some menu items were a bit on the pricier side compared to other places. But honestly, when I saw the generous portion sizes, I felt like I was getting my money’s worth. It’s not the cheapest option out there but for a treat now and then? Worth it.

That said, I did notice some chatter about wait times, especially during peak hours. A few folks were frustrated with delays in getting their orders. Maybe they could benefit from a reservation system or some kind of digital queue management app.

It could help people place their orders in advance or at least keep them updated on wait times. That way, everyone’s expectations are managed, and the dining experience could be a little smoother during those busy times.

Pros

  • Group sets
  • In-house cocktails
  • Loyalty membership program
  • Generous portions

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Peak hours affect service
  • Waiting times could be long

Generously portioned and tasty

Good experience. We got the chicken soup and the volcano chicken meal. They were both generously portioned and tasty, the volcano chicken meal was enough for multiple people.
