I went to POPOLO for a casual dinner with friends, and the moment we walked in, we were greeted with that warm, Italian hospitality. The menu is designed for sharing, and we ended up ordering way too much (not that I’m complaining!).

The slow-cooked lamb shoulder was a standout—paired with a few antipasti plates and wine, and we were set. The location is beautiful too, with an outdoor terrace overlooking the river, which is perfect for long, relaxed dinners.

The Charming Squire is all about full meals and craft beer, brewed right on-site. Their well-known signature steak was really cooked to perfection—they’re juicy, tender, and packed with flavor.

The Charming Squire is huge, with multiple seating areas having a lively vibe that makes you want to sit back, relax, and take it all in. Which made them a great place for a group catch-up or even a date night.

Pro tip: They have a lunch special going on from Monday through Friday until 4PM, where you can get combo meals for $25.

Vici Italian Southbank

At Vici, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with plenty of outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the Brisbane weather while dining. The staff is super friendly and always ready to recommend a great wine to pair with your meal.

The first time I went, I tried their gnocchi with a rich, creamy sauce that became my favorite. Actually, everything that they serve is fresh, from seafood dishes to Italian pasta and wood-fired pizzas.

Pro tip: Get bottomless servings of three of their signature pasta dishes every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 5PM. 

Bacchus

Bacchus felt like stepping into pure luxury because everything about this place screamed elegance. The lighting was soft, the decor was sophisticated, and the food? Wow.

They are serving the most tender steak I’ve ever had, then paired it with a glass of red from their extensive wine list that made the meal feel even more indulgent. And if you’re a dessert person, try the decadent chocolate creation at the end of the meal.

Pro tip: There is valet parking available in Bacchus which is a good thing because parking lots at Southbank are always full.

The Spaghetti House Trattoria

The Spaghetti House Trattoria is one of the locals’ go-tos because it’s like a slice of Italy in the middle of Southbank. I tried there one night and found out that their pasta is homemade with rich sauces, and the pizzas are authentic.

Moreover, there’s a variety on the menu, such as classic carbonara to seafood linguine, which really stood out. And by the way, save room for the tiramisu because it’s the perfect way to finish off a meal here.

Pro tip: Don’t forget to book ahead at least an hour before you arrive at the resto to lessen your waiting time because The Spaghetti House Trattoria is always packed.

Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers, South Bank

If you love gnocchi as much as I do, you have to check out Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers at South Bank. It’s Australia’s first gnoccheria, and their gnocchi is like little pillows of perfection, and the sauces are absolutely delicious.

The vibe is super casual and fun, perfect for grabbing a quick, satisfying meal. Anyway, I went for the creamy mushroom and truffle gnocchi, and honestly, I could have licked the plate clean (but, you know, manners).
